Consider getting a replacement if you are within 14 days of purchase and it bothers you that much. TL DR: Yes, I have recently found out that this is indeed an issue. If not I guess I'll be swapping it for a replacement. Not sure what I'm going to do, may go to a different Apple Store to see if they will swap out the bottom case to see if that'll fix it. It seems like an awful lot of pops and creaks coming from different locations to just go away. He told me his own 15" retina had experienced the same issue and that it went away over time (I also saw a few people on the forums saying that it had gone away with time). The first level tech had not, I had him transfer me to a senior advisor who had said they had heard of it. I called Apple phone support when I got home to see if they would acknowledge having heard of this problem. Can't do that in store because I got a custom configuration. He recommended I get them to exchange it since I was within 14 days. It's all over the internet if you do a quick search. It was too loud in there for them to hear what I was talking about, nor would the Genius acknowledge he'd ever heard of this issue. I went to an Apple Store today with a Genius appointment. I'd really like to be able to fix this issue without doing another replacement because the rest of the unit is freaking flawless. As soon as I reseated the bottom case and pushed those tabs back in, before putting a single screw in, the creaks and pops started again. There are two tabs near the center of the computer that the bottom case snaps out of after you remove the screws. I have a pentalobe screwdriver and removed the bottom to investigate (this technically voids your warranty btw) and the case seemed rock solid without it, no clicks, pops, or creaks. The first unit I got was obviously running hot, had an issue with the screen tint and backlight bleed, and a mushy keyboard (wtf?).Īpple crossed shipped a replacement and it is near perfect, but it has this creaking problem exactly as OP described.Īs far as I can tell its an issue related to the bottom case of the computer. I'm not one of those people you hear returning their Macs half a dozen times and are never happy, but damn, Apple. Ordered from Apple Online with maxed out specs.
